Which mascara should you choose? Nylon or silicone brush?

The mascara brush is one of the most important components of the product, if not the most important. Thick wands nicely thicken the lashes adding some volume, tapered ones are good for lashes of varied length, the curved will quickly curl the lashes. Does the material from which the brush is made also matter? Before you answer the question which mascara to choose, check what properties the nylon and silicone brushes have.

Nylon or silicone brush?

Before you decide which wand to choose, learn the most important criteria that you should pay attention to:

  • durability and resistance to damage,
  • possibility of cleaning,
  • the ability to precisely brush eyelashes.

The silicone brush is more durable. It is difficult to damage or destroy even after several months of regular use and washing. The silicone mascara brush lasts much longer than the formula itself, so the brush can be used after we finish the mascara. A clean mascara wand is great for styling eyebrows. In turn, the nylon brush gets deformed as a result of normal use.

Along with the durability, the next criterion for the selection of the brush is possibility of cleaning. You must have already noticed that the brushes quickly collect dirt and dust. For this reason they should be regularly washed. If we don’t do it, we are at risk of eye irritations and infections.

The brush should be washed at least once a week. This is quite a challenge for every brush as it may lead to deformation. Here, the silicon brushes win as well because nylon wands can deform which might prevent their further use.

The silicone brush has one more undeniable advantage. Because of the material used, silicone brush separates the lashes well and also enables precise application of the formula. Regardless of the number of layers, the silicone one does not stick the lashes. Nylon has completely different properties, it makes it impossible to protect our lashes from sticking together with subsequent layers of mascara.
